Room Tour | How to Style A Small Bedroom

Hi guys! Today’s post is going to be all about my bedroom! I have decorated my bedroom a million times since I moved in and this is my latest summer decor ;) I love how it’s looking and wanted to share some photos! It's a beautiful space, so much light from the big window and enough room for my favourite things. There's probably still a few things I would change, but at the moment I feel happy with it.
Here's the styling your bedroom video-if you want to see it- might be helpful for some, especially if you have a small bedroom.

    LIGHT IT UP

I strongly believe that using soft lighting coming from different directions in the bedroom can have a big effect on how small your bedroom feels. Smart lighting choices can include using fairy lights around your bed frame while indulging in a soothing bedtime routine. A life changing advise I once received was using soft white overhead light with a lower wattage bulb to create a calm ambience and, in turn, make your room feel brighter and larger. Moreover, the headboard is an important part of the room. My previous headboard was tan brown but to instantly change it, I used a DIY upholstered white plain headboard with a nailhead that took less than 20 minutes.

    Creating Depth With Mirrors

Using mirrors will add depth and dimension to a small bedroom. I personally consider wall mirrors akin to big windows. Hanging several smaller mirrors in a group or adding one large mirror will instantly create the illusion of more square footage. Since my room has corners and a big wardrobe, overall, it looks like smaller room that it is. With wall and floor mirrors, the light reflects around the room and psychologically, the spaces seems vast.

    Use a Peaceful Palette

When decorating my room, I first created a mood board to find out what colours I find the most peaceful. I instantly thought of "millennial pink," "disco 54 gold" and  "palm-tree green" even though  the colours are not of similar hues. However, I realized that if I used these same shades on the walls, furnishings and bedding, the bedroom instantly appears larger. The lines between the bedding, wall and desk decor elements will be blurred and your eye will move effortlessly around the room.  Just for added interest, I injected a few pops of a contrasting colour including a bamboo bag and hat.

    DITCH A NIGHT STAND
Using a desk next to your bed will create a dual-purpose opportunity. Initially, I had a small night table but realized I can store my bed journal, books and night time skincare essentials in my desk cupboard. Not only does a small desk act as an oversized nightstand, but when paired with a comfy small chair, serves as a work surface. I positioned my desk in front of my big window so I can directly face the sunshine as I work in the mornings and evenings.  In my personal experience, I maximize the use of my desk if I enjoy my chair and I love my this chair with a cushions and throw.

Helpful Hint: Look for a white small-scale desk at antique markets to add instant charm to your presently-loved bedroom.

    TAKE ADVANTAGE OF VERTICAL STORAGE

Making the most of the vertical space in a small bedroom via open shelves is such a crucial way to keep things neat and organized. I use open shelves in my room to display seasonal shoes and accessories. Small baskets (aka shoe boxes) are genius for providing extra storage for makeup, jewelry and sunglasses. Trust and believe that arranging these shelves is always a work in progress, but I am instantly happy to see it looking decent. The best part of dressing up is coming back to the open shelves, spritzing some perfume, adding sunglasses, and a bracelet to my overall look.

Helpful Hint: It's okay if the open shelves never look finished, mine never is. It's all about the feeling it evokes and how it ties into the decor of the room.

    BRING ON THE PLANTS
Plants are extremely attractive decorating tools that can add tons of positive, calming energy in a small bedroom. Another plus is that plants will complement virtually any design style, so have fun choosing ones that are just right for you.
Helpful Hint: Keep some realistic fake flowers that can look pretty all year long with greenery that you can water every couple of days. The best ones I have found are in Homesense or Michaels.  It's honestly a miracle that this plant from Ikea is growing but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will keep growing.

And that’s my bedroom! I love the neutrals mixed with green and pink! Thanks for reading!
