When it comes to personal style, there's nothing sexier than confidence. This bears repeating because confidence today is shown but never explained as an equation. I tend to think of confidence as a product of two variables. Just like x+y=z, entitlement plus patience = confidence. First off, entitlement. Entitlement has gotten a bad rap because it denotes children of the rich calling people peasants or behaving badly in public. But entitlement in and of itself isn't so bad. Entitlement is simply the belief that you deserve something. Which is great. The hardest part is you better make sure you deserve it. So to make sure I deserve it, I work hard, hard enough that I think I am putting a dent into my far-reaching goals.
Second, patience. Patience is important because as we all realize, hard work does not always guarantee success. This may bring you down and shatter the confidence in yourself. But don't give up. You need time to achieve goals, especially big goals and this requires patience. If you are too impatient, desiring to have immediate results, you might be disappointed and quit your goal. You have to study, improve, change your mindset, and work toward your goal. You have to water your goal with hard work and patience, so that it will come true.
But in all seriousness, confidence isn't exactly the easiest thing to muster up 24/7. I'm well aware that this sounds like cringe-worthy advice from your well-meaning friend, but the fact of the matter is confidence doesn't just fall from the sky down into your lap. In the fashion community, confidence is cooler than any pair of shoes (I know?!) you'll own. Remember that.
