To highlight or not to highlight - that is the question.

Regardless of whether I’m going to work or attending a special event, my highlight will always be applied before I leave the house. I’m a highlight obsessive. I recently did a clear out of makeup that were old, broken or I had completely forgotten and I rounded up my best highlighters I use on a constant basis.
Whilst there are definitely more highlighters I would recommend, and the majority you will find me using on this blog or during my makeup tutorial videos, these five are my ride or die faves that I really thought deserved a mention. From a subtle glow to a full blown moonbeam, these are five products that I am really enjoying!

Best Everyday Highlighter: Hourglass Ambient Powder in Radiant Light
It’s amazing to me how this rose gold pressed powder barely looks like I’ve made a dent in it, when I’ve been wearing it pretty consistently — sometimes for weeks on end — for the past few years. That’s a pretty good thing to know, that a single pan of anything could last until forever, or at least outlast all of my other makeup products.
What I love about Radiant Light is the finish. On the skin it looks like expensive, subtle and sits well with a dewy or matte skin. The sheen is unlike anything else I’ve seen before. Soft and subtle, yet still noticeable, and it’s oh, so forgiving of large pores and fine lines. All in all, this one’s my favourite everyday, all-occasion highlighter in the world!

Best Highlighter for Dramatic Looks: BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz

How can one include a highlighter favourite without including BECCA Cosmetics. This highlighter is a liquid formula that I primarily use to mix into my liquid foundation for an all over glory look. It also works well on the décolletage and on the legs and arms mixed with your favorite moisturizer.
The consistency reminds me of liquid gold. Just too stunning for words and will work in both summer and winter months. The intensity is super intense, and because of the liquid formula, you can keep increasing the intensity depending on the season or your mood. This is the most intense and pigmented highlighter I own, and I primarily wear it during the summer for an incredible glow.  Last but certainly not least, a little goes a little way. Start with applying the product slowly and build up the product by dapping it with your fingers. Your natural body heat blends the highlighter smoothly for a glistening effect.

Best Multi-Use Highlighter: Anastasia Beverly Hills The Modern Renaissance Palette

In my countdown of my favourite highlighters for a perfect glow, I had to include a multi-use product that I depend on for those groggy mornings when I have ten minutes to get ready in the morning. What can I say about the ABH palette that I already haven't, it's my current everyday eyeshadow palette that has a mixture of gorgeous matte and shimmery shades.

A highlighter doesn't have to be specifically labelled a highlighter, this eyeshadow palette contains gorgeous champagne, gold and rose-gold colours that in a rush, I apply in my cupid's bow, tear duct, beneath my brow and my cheekbones to finish off a look. I prefer to apply the product to the back of my hand before using my little finger or a small brush to apply to the high points of my face before blending. This requires a touch more patience and time to blend in to avoid harsh lines but when in a pinch, it works extremely well. For value, this DIY highlighter (eyeshadow palette) is frankly so incredible, one eyeshadow palette can do your eyeshadow, highlighter, contour, and even change the colour of your lip shade! The price really reflects the quality of this product, purchase it for the many things you can do, go wild with your creativity.

Best Golden Shimmer Highlighter: Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in 12

Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer is a sparkling, mauvy-coral highlighter when applied on the cheek bones dresses the skin in a radiant veil. The shade range of the fluid sheer highlighters are quite extensive and I opted to go for a darker hued highlighter that can be more pigmented and build-able. I use this highlighter as a highlight/ blush combo and in general, it mixes with my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation so well that it is not even apparent in daylight. Because of the rich, coral colour in the highlighter, it brings out the rich tones in my skin and lasts seven hours on my before fading. This highlighter doesn't impact the wear time of my base products and I like finger tips or a duo-fibre brush for application using a patting and dabbing motion rather than sweeping across the skin.

I would recommend this to a women of colour who has a hard time finding rich highlighters that are not golden or champagne, but instead, a rich coral hue that has a golden shimmery glow, as if you have had a wonderful facial and your skin is glowing from within. The compliment I get with this highlighter is that I feel alive, my skin is bursting with energy as if I do a de-tox and drink two litres of water a day. You get so much value for this bottle, it has lasted me for ages, it will probably last you a year probably! Giorgio Armani is currently stocked at Sephora, so get it here.

Best Easiest "No Brainer" Highlighter: Benefit Watt's Up

This soft focus champagne shade of highlighter cream gives cheeks, eyes, and face a lovely little luminous glow and you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to use it. The cream to powder formula has a smooth, creamy feel that is great for beginners stepping into the dark world of highlighting, whoo, who is glad that strobing is over? If you tend to avoid highlighting your cheek bones because of not blending it out correctly, the sponge applicator or eraser as I like to call it, blends out the cream to a soft gleaming finish. It’s so easy, it looks like a pro did it for me.
If you are not huge on powders or liquid highlighters you’ll enjoy this easy to use cream formula. Really glow and not at all shimmery, you can use it on the eyelids or cheekbones where it gleams and catches the light! The pigmentation on dark skin tones is medium, not too intense but has enough payoff that is highly noticeable. I tend to pair this highlighter when I am doing smokey looks or any cool-toned looks for a glorious champagne glow! For value, the pigmentation of the cream means it will last you long time, so more bang for your buck!

Tempted to try out something new? Have you already tried any of these? What did you think? I’d love to know of your favourite full blown highlighter for the most intense glow you’ve ever seen. Does it beat any of my faves?! I’d love to know!
