GET READY WITH ME /// New Year's Eve Makeup + GIVEAWAY WINNERS

If you're heading out for New Year's Eve and want some makeup inspiration, here's a tutorial on a twist on the classic night-out look.
NYE is the perfect time to pump up the makeup glamour. I personally love classically beautiful, drop dead gorgeous, Hollywood and vintage-inspired party makeup - flawless, radiant skin with well placed highlighting is instantly beautifying, and you can’t go wrong with a killer red lip (if you're in the market for a new red lipstick, watch my Ultimate Guide here). Sparkle of some sort is also a must (it's rude not to!) for the holiday season - golden eyeshadow teamed with black liner, mascara and a few individual false lashes at the outer corners is another of my easy, go-to party looks.

If you want to try something a little different, I love smoky eyes with colour -copper and deep reds are deliciously wintery, but you can use whatever shades you like (remember that you can adapt all of the products I use in my tutorials depending on the makeup you have and the colours that suit you). Add a dab of coloured glitter to the centre of the lid as a finishing touch.

Though it might sound obvious, my top New Year's Eve tip is to allow enough time to do your makeup - there's nothing worse than having to rush your face! Makeup application helps you to get into the party spirit, so figure out what time you need to leave and work backwards so that you can really focus and enjoy it.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy and prosperous new year, and remember, if you try any of these looks and upload photos to social media, tag them with #MyYasminLook so that I can see and like your pictures.

WHAT'S ON MY IPHONE: 5 APPS TO KEEP YOU PRODUCTIVE ALL DAY LONG

Oh, so you thought the rant finished in just one video? PAH. Think again my friends. In case you're wondering what this post is all about, then you'll definitely need to catch up with my previous video. I'll give you some time to catch up before I continue...

    Sorted? Awesome

I recently upgraded my iPhone 5s and I am super excited to try out the iPhone 6S. After patiently waiting for my phone’s upgrade time, I went ahead, ordered and was so pleased to receive my new phone – especially in Silver!
After quickly charging the phone, I started downloading my usual apps and even discovered a few new ones too.

    INSTAGRAM

INSTAGRAM is my go-to app for posting photos of my day. It’s super quick and easy to alter the brightness, contrast, saturation etc. on any photo. Especially on the go. There’s pretty awesome filters too.

    SNAPCHAT

Ok, I’m pretty new to the world of Snapchat. Catch me over at ‘iamyasminh’. But, I’ve been wanting to use Snapchat for so long. But, after downloading the app and deleting it on a few occasions, I came to the realisation that I didn’t have a clue how to work it. My brother kindly talked me through the ins and outs recently. And, I am now addicted.

    NOTES

I organise my whole life with writing lists upon lists. So, this is a dream come true for an avid list-maker like me! I have a few note apps on my phone, but notes is still my favourite. I can quickly note down something I need to do or action. You can even add a time or deadline day. This then syncs up my iMac and the satisying sound it makes when you tick off an item is the best thing ever!

    QURAN EXPLORER

Quran Explorer app seems to be getting better and better. It's available to download on all smartphone devices and personally speaking, it is the perfect quran app on the market. I primarily use it for daily recitation whenever I have a fifteen minute break.
Remember, what is done in love is done well.

    bloglovin

I find Bloglovin‘ so easy to operate. My primary use is to follow my favourite blogs for daily inspiration. And, I love being able to quickly scroll down my feed, being able to see all the new posts in one place. You can keep up to date with my blog on Bloglovin‘ too.

Although, I have the usual social media apps and podcasts I am currently obsessing over (Hello, Pardon My French!). I typically only have my few islamic apps and keep the rest of my homescreen free. Youtube is SO good on my new phone, as I now have a much larger screen to watch videos on. I can now properly view videos without having to prop it up right at my face.

What are your favourite go-to apps? Let me know in the comment section below!

HOW TO WEAR PASTELS IN WINTER NOW: OUTFIT & MAKEUP

When I look at the most recent spring / summer 2017 collections and all the great fuchsias, lilacs and kitten heels, it makes me miss the summer, and wish I could wear some of those colors now. My winter wardrobe seems to be mostly neutrals: lots of gray, black, brown — and pretty much black skirts with everything. I try to get different colour boots to spice it up, but that only goes so far. So recently, while shopping during Boxing Day, I saw the Forever 21 jacket (similar)  on sale for $30.

Here are some pastel color combinations that I’m adding to my closet, inspired by the spring 2015 shows.

I thought to myself, Why haven’t I bought more pastels to mix in with these light coloured blazers? Here are some pastel color combinations that I’m adding to my closet, inspired by the spring 2017 shows.

    Lilac & Cream

This lilac skirt  can be easily worn in the winter and summer. I like that it’s high waisted so you can wear it with a cropped shirt like this one from Zara and layer with this neutral cropped blazer from Forever 21.  For my scarf,  I am not a fan of Barbie pink, but I can pull off shades of dusky rose. The hijab is a simple pashmina fabric in a nude grey that matches the skirt without it being too matchy

I love the clutch bag because it’s something I would feel comfortable wearing anywhere, it's wide enough to stash all of my essentials some emergency tablets. The Silver Bracelet is a nice addition to the look, I love how it sparkles when the light hits it. The suede black pumps  make the outfit more sophisticated and glamourous. You can make this work for summer by getting rid of the blazer coat and swapping in a white silk shirt.

    Lilac Rose Makeup

For makeup, I always revert to quick and easy makeup that's one step above 'no makeup' makeup for photos but on this particular day, I really went for a rose gold theme that light and airy.

Makeup For Ever Full Coverage Concealer review |  Of course this is in the mix! It's just one of those great concealers that you can use under your eyes and it isn't too thick or caky but it's also high-coverage enough and not too hydrating for on blemishes. It doesn't crease, is long-wearing and has such a natural finish, as well as a formula that blends incredibly well.

    Cheeks

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light | review | Of course this is my go-to bronzer so it's what I reach for when I'm feeling a bit lazy. It's a matte formula that looks warm on the skin but not orange. The formula is so smooth and easy to blend that I can apply this in a minute or two to add some quick dimension to the look.

Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer | £25 | review | I guess it doesn't look like much in the bottle, or even when swatched, but this is one of my most used blushers for a reason; it just always does the trick! It's a liquid formula but does have a bit of a sheen to it. It just has the best formula, whilst it feels a bit fluid, it just applies so evenly with no effort and lasts all day long. The colour itself is a true-rose-gold.

    Eyes

MAC Single Eyeshadow in All That Glitters | This is the shade I actually reach for the most! MAC eyeshadows have a great formula and this shade is no exception. The colour is a shimmery rose gold. This is a pearlised finish so it has this gorgeous subtle rose gold sheen. It's no way understated but noticeable wash of colour that's just so long-wearing and crease-proof.

By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Velvet Orchid | This is a bit pricey but it's worth getting yourself a stick eyeshadow because you can also line your eyes with it. I use this deep purple matte cream eyeshadow on the outer part of the lid and the blend it with my finger (there's no need to be too precise).

W3LL People Expressionist Mascara | Lashes are pretty much a non-negotiable, no matter how lazy I'm feeling - my makeup just feels unfinished without mascara! This is of course my old favourite because it gives me so much length and curl as well as a nice dose of volume that's nothing too clumpy. It just really helps open up the eyes as well.

    Lips

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick | review| I know they're kind of pricey but I honestly swear by these tinted lipsticks, they feel like lip balms! Plus, it's so nourishing and are actually quite pigmented in terms of the colour. This shade is a very warm plum nude.

HOW TO DO YOUR EYELASH EXTENSIONS AT HOME DIY

Let me tell you, waking up with a full set of black curled lashes is a LIFE CHANGING for anyone! Eyelashes make the biggest difference, and my eyes disappear without them. Now I feel like I’m 80% ready for the day before I even start putting my makeup on.

Ok, onto the tutorial…make sure you read all my notes at the bottom of the post as well. I talk all about how to care for and remove your lashes.

My Youtube video shows how to best apply individual eyelashes, so just follow the tutorial for a more in-depth tutorial.

Going to the salon every two weeks for eyelash extensions is so time consuming. When I do it at home, I do it once a week (sometimes every 2nd week if Im lazy) and it takes me 30 min for the whole process. Sure, I’ve been doing this for six months now so I’m used to it, but it’s not as hard as you think to learn how to apply individual lashes on yourself – and make them last for 1-2 weeks!

Give yourself some patience and time to practice (and fail a few times) and you will notice how this beauty hack will save you time and money.
My advice is to apply them one by one next to each other in two layers. First you apply one layer and after the second layer on top of the first to get some more thickness and get an even results with no gaps. If you want a very natural result, then 1 layer is enough.

    MATERIALS:

    • The starter kit is by Ardell and you can get it here. It includes the lash glue, lash remover, tweesers, and short, medium, and long lashes.
    • I also recommend grabbing at least 1 refill of the  medium lashes. (I don’t use the long lashes, they are just too fake long for me).
    • Also, a mascara wand will help you maintain your lashes.
    • I recently purchased this black Quo eyelash extension glue, and I love it! The glue dries black, not clear, so it is much less noticeable, and gives more of an eyeliner look along your lash line.

                                      BEFORE / AFTER

HOW TO MAKE INDIVIDUAL LASHES LAST 1-2 WEEKS

    1. Don’t rub your eyes, when removing eye makeup, slowly massage your eyelid to remove eye shadow and use a Q-tip when removing eyeliner.
    2. Don’t sleep on your face. I try hard not to touch them or smash the lashes on my pillow when I sleep at night.
    3. Don’t towel dry your eyes (let your eyes air dry after you shower/wash your face. Let the lashes air dry after taking a shower.
    4. Once the lashes are applied, don't add any mascara or eye makeup for a few hours to make sure that the lashes set completely.
    5. When the lashes start to get tangled, use a clean mascara wand/ eyebrow spool to gently brush them out, curling the wand toward you. Make sure you only do this on top of your lashes.

    Practice makes perfection!

Honestly, don’t expect having salon looking lashes on your first try. You won’t most probably! But after some rounds of practice you will and it will really be worth it. So start practicing and learning the technique, it’s easy and anyone can do it! Any questions? Just ask me :)

When I wash my face at night, I remove my makeup with a Q-tip. Don’t use a cotton ball because the fibers will get stuck in your lashes. I don’t always wear eyeliner along the top of my lashes, but when I do, its a liquid liner, and I remove it with a Q-tip. Also, make sure to use an oil free eye-makeup remover. As for washing the rest of my face, I just am careful not to scrub my lashes, and clean around them.
I never ever go to bed without taking off my makeup. Especially my eye makeup. If I sleep with it on it irritates my eyes. For the first few days of wearing the lashes, I noticed that it irritated my eyes a bit in the morning. I am just careful to remove as much of my eye makeup as possible and I haven’t had a problem with the irritation since then.

*Let me know if you have any questions! I’d be happy to answer any questions I didn't already cover!

    Peace and Love,

The #1 Reason Most People Don't Wear Colour

Colour is awesome. That seems like an incredibly silly sentence when you type it out but let’s hope you get where I’m going with this: color is a great form of self-expression. But the thing about color is that it can get a bit complicated when you’re, say, uninspired and trying to look chic.

So if you’re like me (read: crabby, covered and relatively exhausted even before you get out of bed in the morning) then you reach for all things black & white, but don't do it. Try to put on an outfit that has at least three distinct colours. Visually, when one wears an outfit with three different colours that complement each other, it looks like you put lot's of effort into your look.

On this particular morning, I  put my foot down and refused to put on any black and white look, as I often do. I went deep into my wardrobe and found a cream jacket from Laura. It is a cropped, wool jacket that I have had for years but often find it difficult to pair with other items. Ah-ah, I had the revelation of treating my look like a fine piece of architecture. I thought to myself, "cool palette, cream with a shimmery taupe hijab and a cool dark brown skirt." I put the outfit on and it was magical. I loved it and immediately called on my friend to take some pictures of the look for my blog. I found this nouveau, green glass building on campus that was a gorgeous backdrop with my outfit of the day.

So long story short, as fashion bloggers, embrace colour and ditch the all-black look for fall/ winter. Let me know what you guys think of this post in the comment section below!
